Observation notes: This and at least one other sootywing were alighting on the ground at a damp area with quite a few other butterflies. I didn't see a blue sheen on the underside or contrasting black veins on any but I didn't get any good angles on ventral shots for them unfortunately. This one that I photographed looks mostly dull on the ventral hindwing so I'm going with Common. The white spots n the head make this a pretty cute butterfly.
