Observation notes: Kings-cup hedgehog cacti (Echinocereus triglochidiatus) have begun flowering in White Sands National Park, this entry illustrates a flower visit by a foraging western pygmy blue. Fewer than 5 butterflies were observed this afternoon, typical of the region to date. The day was sunny, hot, and windy - the main park was closed due to blowing sand and possible accidents from early visitors.
