Coordinator notes: yes, that's the correct ID. and the plant it hangs out on in your pics is it larval host (Lippia something or other); it is a breeding resident at Rattlesnake Springs. Phaon was thought to occur inland along the entire Gulf of Mexico, Florida to Texas. But recent DNA work has found that the west side of that distribution (i.e., Texas and NM) is a distinct species, Phyciodes jalapeno. DNA-based taxonomies now apply that name to NM's populations: Jalapeno Crescent - not bad!
