Giant Swallowtail
Papilio cresphontes

Observation date: September 06, 2023
Submitted by: dan stringer
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I believe this is a male, Eastern subspecies H. cresphontes.
Status: Stray
Verified by: mikefisher
Verified date: September 09, 2023
Coordinator notes: Correct ID...the other possibility Papilio rumiko (Western Giant Swallowtail) has a continual yellow stripe on the head behind the eyes and onto the thorax (the tegulae). Looks like a female to me because the spotting is reduced in size on the wings. Good record. Mike
