Observation date: July 20, 2023

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: An extended observation period beginning at 2:30pm when I first arrive at the hilltop park. One individual was observed flying around the landscape flowers associated with the ranger's residence just below top of the hill. Several other individuals (3-4) were observed aggressively hilltopping in and around the natural vegetation at the hilltop view area. The first individual had lost all of its tails. Others lost some wing sections or appeared whole. Other sp were observed in the immediate area. including Hairstreaks, Duskywings and at least one Anise Swallowtail. Possible dark-wing species resembling a Pipevine Swallowtail were observed in the hilltopping fray, but I was not able to identify. Weather was clear, warm, with a slight coastal breeze.
