Five-spotted hawkmoth
Manduca quinquemaculata

Observation date: July 17, 2022
Submitted by: Junipermoose
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found this one hanging about my high desert home and food gardens the last couple days. He seemd kind of in a daze, sloppy behavior when crawling and attempting to fly. Very hot weather lately, 90-100 degrees the past week with little rain ( 0.3"). Host plants unknown- local wuld tomatillo or my cultivated datura perhaps? I do not grow any nightshades in my food gardens. 7,000' elevation. Monsoon season. Piñon/Juniper/Scrub Oak forest.
